Once someone asked me the difference between the I and the Eye.
With an amused gaze,
I felt unfazed and said:
The Eye
Is a mirror,
A silver rimmed witness
Observing the world in a blink, yet keeping its distance.
It sees the mountain,
It sees the pain,
The texts written in vain,
And the streaks of greys on my mother’s hair.
The Eye is a lonely warrior;
It sees the world, yet not itself. The truest horror.
But the I
Is the one sitting in the dark behind the glass.
The I is the one who aches when the Eye sees too much.
When the salted streaks begin their slow crawl, down the cheeks like a waterfall,
It is the Eye that leaks, tears lamenting,
But it is the I that is drowning.
The Eye is doomed to watch
While the I is doomed to feel and touch.
How sad can the Eye be?
How sad can I be?
